Some of the strongest pirates were given the title of the Seven Warlords, but that role came with some terrible consequences.
The Seven Warlords of the Sea are seven special pirates who ally with the World Government of the One Piece world. In exchange for their allegiance to the World Government, these pirates are granted great freedom on the seas.
They have their bounties frozen and are not pursued by the Marines, allowing them to go about their business in the Grand Line freely. While being a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea is quite beneficial to most pirates in the world, sometimes, this position brings more trouble than one bargains for.
The Seven Warlords Are Known To Be The Dogs Of The Government
The Seven Warlords of the Sea are given the freedom to do whatever they like as long as they agree to help the World Government when they’re called upon. While this agreement sounds simple, it means the World Government can use them to do anything for them, and most of them have to oblige. Some, like Bartholomew Kuma, even offered their own body to further the Pacifista project of the World Government and help them out in their scientific advancements.
The Seven Warlords Are Targeted By Other Pirates
The Seven Warlords of the Sea are strong pirates, and they are used by the World Government to take care of other pirates. For this reason, they encounter quite a lot of dangerous pirates across the seas. This makes them a target for the pirates and puts their lives in needless danger. While the weak ones certainly don’t stand a chance against the Warlords, the strong pirates, such as Luffy, end up taking down the Warlords who cross their path. To the Government, it makes no difference as pirates don’t hold any real value to them anyway.
The Seven Warlords Are Forcefully Used Against The Yonko
The balance of power in the One Piece world is quite complicated. Until recently, it was maintained by three main groups: the Marines, the Shichibukai, and the Yonko. Together, these groups were known as the Three Great Powers of the world. By allying with the World Government, the Shichibukai, together with the Marines, are used to counter the Yonko or the Four Emperors.
While this rarely ever happens, on rare occasions, they have no choice but to fight the Yonko, such as during the Paramount War. Fighting against a Yonko and their crew is a frightful experience for anyone, including the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
The Seven Warlords Are Mere Pawns Who Can Be Discarded Anytime
While the World Government offers great power to the members of the Seven Warlords, they don’t really care about them. Should a member of the Shichibukai fall, the World Government either covers up the incident, as they did with Gecko Moria, or they simply choose to replace the member of the Seven Warlords and strip them of their title, as seen with Sir Crocodile and even Donquixote Doflamingo later on in the story. As expected, the World Government doesn’t care about the Seven Warlords as long as they’re useful to them. Once things go bad, they don’t hesitate to replace them.
The Seven Warlords Are Arrested Once They’re Stripped Of Their Title
The Seven Warlords of the Sea have, on various occasions, been exposed for committing crimes behind the scenes. Sir Crocodile, for example, wanted to get his hands on the Ancient Weapon Pluton, and for that, he almost destroyed the entirety of Alabasta. When his plans were revealed and Luffy defeated him, Crocodile was immediately arrested by the Marines, and Smoker was given the credit for it. Similarly, when Donquixote Doflamingo was beaten by Luffy, he was immediately arrested despite being a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea.
Their Future Is In The Hands Of The Political Leaders Of The World
The Seven Warlords of the Sea might have the backing of the World Government, but they can’t get too comfortable. In fact, even the political leaders of the world, who have no fighting experience, can turn their lives upside down, as they did in the recent Reverie.
By voting to abolish the Shichibukai system, the group ceased to exist and became no different from other pirates. Shortly afterward, the Seven Warlords found the Marines at their backs, ready to take them down.
Higher Power Can Take Them Out For Being Incompetent
While all the members of the Seven Warlords are strong, they can still be defeated. When that happens, the World Government can get rid of them secretly. This was seen at the end of the Marineford arc, when Donquixote Doflamingo was ordered to kill Gecko Moria just because he was too weak to remain a member of the Seven Warlords. When Gecko Moria asked Doflamingo who ordered him to kill him, Doflamingo replied that it was someone much higher than Sengoku in status, meaning it was either the Gorosei or Im himself.
The Power Of The Seven Warlords Can Stagnate Over The Years
The Seven Warlords of the Sea get by on the seas with their trickery. They aren’t chased down by the Government and don’t really fight strong pirates on a regular basis. For this reason, some members of this organization can grow weak over time, as seen with Gecko Moria. Although he was strong once, Moria couldn’t maintain his level of strength because he got too lazy. Evidently, the title of the Seven Warlords can spell doom for those without enough motivation by making them lazy and overconfident.
